Year 5 have had a great start to the new school year! We are now in full swing with our new topic, Alchemy Island since the alchemist made a surprise appearance last week. He left the children with a package full of clues to where the entranced to alchemy island might be. They had to unpick the clues from the alchemist’s riddle and use the map to locate the mystery portal.
The children were inspired to locate magic portals around school. They used the iPads to take photographs of potential portals and later used a photograph editing app to enhance the photographs so that they resembled magical portals.
Since then, the children have used their portal pictures to inspire the opening to their fantasy stories. They have even begun to compose a piece of music (using Garage Band) to be played as they enter their magic portal.
Year 5 have already shown they are great mathematicians! They have been looking at large numbers (past 1,000,000) and reading them, writing comparing them, ordering them and rounding them.
All in all, a fabulous first couple of weeks in Year 5 Lionfish! Well done to you all!
