Times Tables Challenge

On Friday, five children from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in a times tables challenge at Elm Wood Primary School.

Following the success of the tables challenge hosted at Boarshaw in the summer term, we were invited to Elm Wood for round two.

The then reigning champion, Harrison, was joined by his teammates: Mitchell, Bailey, Adam and Ben.

The children were excited and determined as the audience entered the hall. Tension built as the children began the first round of Pod questions. Amazingly, the hall was almost silent as the sound of the children’s fingers racing to 100 was all that could be heard. It was a close competition and the silence was broken as the audience cheered for the children who began raising their hands to show they had finished.

Team Boarshaw did us proud during all of the rounds from the intense Pod rounds to the nail-biting buzzer rounds.

Mitchell took to the Mastermind Challenge with great confidence. With his chosen specialism being the 8 times tables, he impressed us with his speed and determination. Answering all of his questions correctly with an impressive speed, he won Team Boarshaw maximum points for that round.

All in all, the morning was a success! The children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and were placed 2nd overall. Harrison, the previous champion, also managed 3rd place for the Pod rounds and received an impressive bronze medal.

Well done Team Boarshaw!
