Year 1 had the pleasure of looking after and caring for a little batch of eggs for two weeks! The eggs arrived one morning and we were very excited. The pupils help to set up the enclosure which the chicks would live in. Then we waited excitedly for our eggs to hatch!

The first crack in the egg emerged a few days later and within a few hours the first chick had arrived! It was very small and made lots of chirping noises! By the next day we had 5 chicks and the following 2 chicks hatched the day after. We transferred our chicks into their enclosure.

Throughout their journey in Year 1, we cared for our chicks by putting down fresh water, seed and changing their bedding. The chicks like to make lots of noise and enjoyed coming out of the enclosure and running round on our carpet! We could not believe how light and soft the chicks were and took much care to hold them whenever we could! It was a sad day when we had to say goodbye to our beautiful chicks but what an amazing experience this was for all our pupils!

We created a display to help us to remember our chicks and the learning we had experienced.
