Year 2 were privileged to receive a visit from the Edgar Wood Society. Our guests brought along none other than Mr Wood himself!

He had travelled through time to come and talk to Year 2 about his work and early life in Middleton. Mr Wood was very surprised at how different Middleton looked when compared to his own childhood. Edgar Wood was born in 1860 and was the most advanced English architect of his generation. In school he had many aspirations to be an artist and was a keen student. We explored the place where Edgar Wood had grown up and looked at where his home had been.

We found out some interesting facts which fascinated us. Did you know Edgar Wood attended the Old Grammar School as a child? Did you know Edgar Wood’s father owned a cotton mill in Middleton? Mr Wood told us about the many differences in houses, the local area, transport and schools from modern day life as we know it. Our pupils had the chance to ask questions and had a go at being architects themselves by designing their own buildings! Thank you to the Edgar Wood Society for such a brilliant visit! We much appreciated it!
