Welcome to Nursery Sea Turtles

Miss Ball - class teacher   Miss Morton - class TA

Welcome to Foundation Stage, where children are encouraged and supported to become independent, enthusiastic learners for life. Through structured play, focus activities and small group teaching children are nurtured through their learning journey. Children are encouraged to learn by exploring the world around them and developing their own learning through self-exploration and play. Nursery this year is taught by myself, Miss Ball, and supported by Miss Morton.

Here is our welcome booklet for you to have a look at, you will be able to meet the staff and find out about our Foundation Stage.

New parents can also view or welcome presentation here.

Foundation Stage Curriculum Overview

We have used the national curriculum and our expertise to map out a broad, balanced, creative and coherent curriculum. We believe our curriculum empowers our pupils to access and develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions to enable them to become well-rounded citizens who take with them a life-long love of learning. Further information about how we teach our Early Years curriculum can be found below and also in our school policy.

Homework

In Nursery we ask children to read a story (which could be their reading or library book or a book from home) each night together with an adult. We will set little homework tasks throughout the year which you can complete when you have time. We enjoy talking and making things and that is what we would like our parents to do at home as much as possible with their child.

Reading and Phonics

Reading is very important. Our pupils are encouraged to engage in reading both in school and at home.

In Nursery we are focusing on Phase 1 Phonics from Letters and Sounds. This looks at 7 aspects:

Aspect 1 - Environmental Sounds

Aspect 2 - Instrumental Sounds

Aspect 3 - Body Percussion

Aspect 4 - Rhythm and Rhyme

Aspect 5 - Alliteration

Aspect 6 - Voice Sounds

Aspect 7 - Oral blending and segmenting

Please go on the Phonics Play website here and play some games with your child.
