A Diary of London.
This topic has focused on London today and the history of The Great Fire of London.
To start our topic we recieved a letter from Paddington Bear. He explained that he would be learning alongside us this term in Year 2 and he was looking forward to reading our writing. As a class we decided that each week a child would take Paddington home to continue his learning adventure. We keep a class diary of his adventures and these are shared weekly. The children also gave Paddington his favourite breakfast marmalade on toast on morning.
So far this term we have visited Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum in Rochdale to learn about the history of The Great Fire of London in 1666. We met Bob, Les and Linda who gave us a tour around the Museum and explained how the fire service has changed over the years. We learnt how to pump water for a fire engine, we tried on fireman helmets and we slid down a fireman's pole. Paddington came with us on the trip and he had a fantastic time. We have continued our learning about The Great Fire of London back at school. We now understand why the fire spread so quickly in 1666 and how homes have changed today so this won't happen again.
